Ok, as we know from a previous entry I am a slacker... procrastinator... starter of many projects and finisher of few. Hey, I'm all about the creative process but not so much about the production process. This is the evil that has reared its ugly head to nip at my tender regions.
So I've been writing this story for awhile. The whole thing has been fidgeting around my head and on scraps of paper and in text files on my computer for 3-5 years. I know the story fairly well and I know the characters very well. I know their histories, what they look like, what they sound like, and their favorite flavors of ice cream.
I have this character and I thought "Muhahaha I am genius! I have created a unique and satirical character that all will marvel in! What's more I have a detailed and improbable history for this character that binds the story into a cohesive and convincing narrative array!"
What can I say, my inner voice is prone to excesses.
So, the other day I was looking at the recent deviations of one of the folks I follow and they had posted an image that I thought "Neat!" then I read the description of the characters. While not 100% the same as my character it does make my character feel somewhat derivative.
So now I'm stuck. I suppose its fine if they seem derivative, because let's face it: it's hard to be original even if you've lived in a cave for the last 100 years.
